Early update - Thursday instead of Friday - because I don't know whether I'll have time for it tomorrow morning (have to get my cat to the vet before work).
Offtopic, just a story for those who are curious about why I missed two updates.
Prelude. My son is 15 and this is his last carefree summer. After that, he'll have to choose his future profession and work hard towards his exams for college (or uni if he so decides). We're not rich enough to pay for his education, so his only chance is to pass exams perfectly so his education will be paid for by the state. It's not easy but quite doable: both my husband and I had our education in uni paid for by the state. All that it requires is studying diligently and starting your preparations early.
So: the last carefree summer. And our quiet bookish kid who rarely ever asks for anything suddenly wished to see a metro and visit a space museum. Easy, one might say, just take him to Moscow for a few days! Alas, we couldn't afford it. But we thought of an alternative: Samara, a city near ours. It has a metro (not as grand as Moscow's but still nice and pretty and retro-looking - Link) and a space museum (with a real Soyuz rocket in front of it! - Link). Also, one of my readers lives in Samara and she kindly offered to give us a tour on the city.
We spent three amazing days in Samara (and two on the train). Visited museums, ate fancy snacks, enjoyed the company of our new friends (my reader and her husband), rode metro trains and walked so much everywhere that our legs hurt. It was a real adventure :) The most important thing: our boy was happy and genuinely thankful to the parents who can give him so little. Sometimes I think we don't deserve this amazing child. Love him so much.
Anyway, the comic is back to the schedule. "Obsidian Triad" will be back next week. Thank you for staying with me despite everything!
More to read
I have other books for you besides GWI. Take a look at them while waiting for a new page :)
I have:
- Tales from the Afterworld, a collection of short stories in different genres (sci-fi, fantasy, magical realism, space opera, fairytale)
- Obsidian Triad, an illustrated fantasy novel about a world created by dreamers. It begins with a young mortal's becoming an apprentice of the creators of his world and tells a long story (the size of LOTR) with a huge cast of different characters. My biggest and my favourite work so far.
- I also have some of my stories translated into Esperanto (an awesome artificial language you can learn in just 10 hours, possibly the official language of BRICS in the future): Donacoj de glacimontoj (Esperanto version of GWI with Russian and English translations under every page so that people can use the comic to easily learn Esperanto) and Glacidonaco (Esperanto version of Ice Gift, the short story that inspired GWI).
My main site is Mildegard.ru, so you can just bookmark it and use it to reach everything I have published so far.
